workout app randomly starting

I have recently noticed that the workout icon (green running man) is appearing as running on my watch without my actively using the workout app. I regularly use the app to record my activity however always save the results at end of the workout. When I have noticed the green man icon appearing on my watch, I have checked the workout app to validate i have not left an open session running. The only way to stop the icon appearing is to then start/stop a new workout.

I am upgraded to latest watch watchos v2.0.1

Any thoughts appreciated

It may otherwise help to unpair and re-pair your watch. The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch when unpairing via the app. Choose to Restore from Backup during set up. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).

If the issue persists, try these steps:

  • On your iPhone: close all open apps (double-click the Home button, then swipe up on each app).
  • Force restart your watch by pressing and holding both the side button and Digital Crown for around 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

  • Check your heart rate:
    • When viewing the time on your watch face, swipe up on the screen, swipe left / right to the Heartbeat Glance - allow time for it to take a reading, then swipe down to exit.
    • Then also tell Siri: "check my heart rate", wait for the reading, then press the Digital Crown to exit.
  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Workout - turn on Power Saving Mode (this can be turned off later).
  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > turn off Heart Rate and Fitness Tracking. These can be re-enabled after the final step.
  • Then restart both devices (off together, restart iPhone first).
