Q: iPhone disappears after a few seconds in Photos

Hello,

I have an iPhone 6 that will disappear after a few seconds in Photos.  I plug the phone in, load up Photos, and see it there.  I have enough time to click on the phone and it starts to load image previews and then it just disappears out of Photos.  It is still 'mounted' in iTunes (though I have tried having iTunes both open and closed during this whole process and I get the same result with Photos).  The old iPhoto app doesn't have a problem.  It doesn't appear to be a physical connection issue -- Lightning port is nice and clean and have tried different cables.  All apps and OS X are up to date.  For funsies I've tried rebuilding the Photos library just in case.  No dice.  Am I looking at a complete re-install to get Photos fixed?  Should I back up everything to Time Machine, re-install OS X over the network, and then restore the Time Machine data?

Thanks

Photos, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

I wish I knew -- there's not been anything that I can think of.  No major updates to anything around the time the problem started.

I have the exact same problem. I bought a new iPhone 6s Plus and restored my backup. Now the problem you described is happening. Sometimes it says the images are not recognised and such.

I can see them and extract them in Windows 10. It still show up in iTunes but image capture and photos no.

If you ever find the solution, please share. I have searched the web everywhere and nothing. Yours is the first post that I find with this subject.

    Hello,

I have latest updates, a MacPro 2013, I tried multiple USB/Lightning cables, multiple USB ports, I even restored Photo (Alt+Command), but I still get this that it disappears after a few seconds

    Help... anyone?

After a lot of experimenting I found out that Apple changed the way it handles.tiff files and changed to full res nomenclature. All pictures taken with a third party app that had higher than the standard resolution was causing that problem.

In my case case I was using camera +. While the app is excellent, all pictures taken at full resolution ( above the stock app) are causing this crash. And when sent to other people it causes their phones to have the same problem if the pictures are in their camera roll and connect to the photos app in Mac OS X. Sending the pictures thru airplay or extracting them on a Windows machine and importing to the photos app resolves the problem.  Then, I stopped using the camera + app until this issue gets resolved. Taking normal pictures with the stock app does not cause this to happen.

Hope this helps.  I am now on the ios and Mac OS X betas  and the problem continues...

    All the best,
