Mac (1.5 yrs old) is moving slower, help?

I just recently upgraded to the Os X El Captain (the description said it could speed up processing, especially internet) But it still feels sluggish and

is definetly not as quick as when i first purchased my lovely Mr. Mac. (OS X 10)

Are there any suggestions for speeding up the performance or cleaning up whatevers to get this moving quicker??

Thanks, debbee

The only major thing I see is you are using too much RAM which means something is hogging it all. Read and use Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used. The other thing I see is you are not backing up your computer. This is extremely short sighted and dangerous. You risk losing critical information daily by not backing up the system.

Well, I guess I'm a little lost then, because I am not sure what I am looking at in the Activity Monitor....this is what I am seeing:

And this is the explanation from the link:

It makes it look like I have quite a bit of Memory available as compressed, and the memory pressure of

green says that Memory is still available.

I feel really dumb!!!!

Time since boot: about 40 days

I would reboot more frequently than you've been doing. Rebooting will clear out temporary cache and swap files. I'm an advocate of rebooting every day.

While you're rebooting boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair the disk. Reboot normally and check for any changes in performance.

Your memory situation is fine. You're in the low green area and steady. Nothing amiss there.
