Q: Best way to export a Full HD movie from FCP 7?

I am about to export footage from FCP 7.  It was shot in Full HD 1920x1080. I want to choose the best possible settings appropriate for this format for the highest quality.  I'd like to export from FCP 7 first as a self contained file.  (When necessary, I'll send it to compressor to author a DVD.)  As far as exporting from FCP 7, what settings should I choose?  If it helps I shot the footage using a Panasonic HC-V700.

    Assuming you have followed best practices through your editing process, you can do no better than exporting the sequence with the same settings the sequence itself is set to.

    That does help.  The sequence settings were set lower than Full HD.  Using a Panasonic HC-V700, if you wanted to export at the best setting, what would that be?  For example would you choose Pro Res 422 30, Pro Res 422 60, or something else?

    "Full HD" is a sales and marketing term. There are may standards for HD, the important thing is to make sure your are using an FCP 7 friendly format and that your sequence settings are appropriate for your source material. There is no way to improvie the source material beyond what it is.

     

    Click on one of your camera source clips in the FCP browser. Once it is selected, type Command + 9 to see the item properties for the clip. Either report those properties here, or take a screen shot of the item properties and post that here.

     

    Next, click anywhere in your sequence timeline. Type command + 0 {zero} to see your sequence settings. Either report the sequence settings here or take a screen shot of the sequence settings and post that here.

    Your settings are perfect.

    Export a self contained QiickTime Movie without conversion.

    Once you have exported that file, you can use that file to create the deliverables as needed.
