Q: lock files
Good day,
I have come across a problem which seems to be all over the internet, but with no fix.
We manage a large Mac front end and Windows Server back end environment.
Currently we are experiencing issues whereby MS Office files are being persistently locked, even after the app is closed.
This causes the file to be un-editable and not allowing the file to be over written.
This is most common with .xlsx files.
The suggestions on the net include deleting the lock files, but this is not feasible for daily operations.
With a little digging, I have figured out the following.
The files and folder's security is controlled by Global security groups.
When the user having the issue was given explicit rights (perms set by username rather than group) to the folder and files within, the problem went away.
Now, we cannot give each of the users their own rights to the folders, as this will create chaos in trying to maintain permissions.
Are there any suggestions on this?
Thanks!
