will not sync with my phone

I can't sync my phone. I plug my phone into my computer and nothing happens. If I manually open iTunes, it doesn't even recognize that my phone is plugged in....

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

If your computer won't recognise your iOS device, follow the steps suggested by Apple.
