iMac freezes after upgrading to El Capitan

I have a 2010 iMac that I recently upgraded to El Capitan (Version 10.11.1). Ever since I upgraded, the computer inexplicably freezes (spinning beach ball) on a regular basis. I have to do a hard restart every time. I am not running Outlook (I read that some people with Outlook had a similar problem). Any ideas on what might be causing the problem?

Hey idelmac,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like your iMac stops responding intermittently since upgrading to OS X El Capitan. If you haven't already, try taking a look at the article linked below and running through the isolation and troubleshooting tips that it provides.

Take care.
