Q: why does imessage not sync to my macbook

i run iMessage across iPhone 6s, iPad mini, and macbook air. My Air is running OS X 10.11.1 and will not sync a specific phone number i communicate with. I cannot create a message to this number on my Air, nor will it show messages created on my iphone/ipad or responses from this number. I have rebooted all devices, deleted my phone number and started over, re-enter that number in my contacts, and deleted the iMessage plist, and still no fix. any suggestions?

it is not a continuity issue. when I create/receive an iMessage on my iPhone, I can generally see those messages on my iPad or MacBook. However, in some cases that does not happen. For example, there a few specific phone numbers that I "iMessage with" on my iPhone but cannot communicate with on my MacBook.

However, I've done some more research and in my settings/imessage i enabled text messaging forwarding. That seems to be working but am not sure that is the only solution as I seem to have the desired issue with other numbers on a sporadic basis. Still looking for suggestions.
