5th Gen iPod Touch getting "error 9" message

Out of the blue, my daughter's 5th gen iPod touch stopped working and shows the "connect to iTunes" image. I have tried to connect it to iTunes on several computers but I am prompted to restore it (which I don't mind doing) but when it goes through the process, I end up with an error 9 message. I've tried restarting my computer, removing and re-adding iTunes, turning off any protective software that might be blocking iTunes, etc. I've tried it all!! (Even connecting to a work computer...just in case!) Unfortunately I keep getting the error 9 message. I'm at my wits end. Is there anything else I can do? Or is this thing dead? It's only 2 years old and she takes really good care of it. Not sure how this happened...

***I do have a Windows 10 machine at home and a Windows 7 machine at work. Both have the latest version of iTunes installed.

Check your security software

Errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1611, 9006.

Sometimes security software can stop your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.

Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't blocking a connection to the Apple servers.

If you still see the error message, check for USB connection issues. Seems like you have to do that

As per my original comment, I tried everything you've recommended to me. (USB ports, cables, computers, software, etc.) I even called Apple (the genius bar is 2+ hours away from me) and they weren't overly helpful. I guess I was hoping that someone on this board had actually experienced the same thing and could give me some tips other than what is already out there on the web. Thank you anyway.
