Remote Desktop Update Problem

Ran Software Update today and it asked me to install a Remote Desktop Client update. Ran the update, then tried to lauch Remote Update. Got the message "the Remote Desktop Administrator software does not match the installed Client software version". Dowloaded the Remote Update Admin update, and when I attempt to install I get a message that says "You cannot install Remote Desktop Admin Update on this volume. This update could not find Remote Desktop administrator program. Prior to these updates I was able to use Remote Desktop perfectly. Now I can't even open the application. Any ideas why?

I was able to get 3.1 to work after reading this thread. My only problem now is that trying to enter access privileges in System Preferences>Sharing>Remote Desktop>Access Privileges section does not work. I click on "Access Privileges and nothing happens.

Something is awry here. Poked around System>Library>PreferencePanes and saw that at some point it installed a different SharingPref.PrefPane. Did a get info on it and noticed it was the PowerPC version... not a Universal Binary for my Macbook Core2Duo. Could this be the problem?

Maybe there is a problem with the Apple Installer.

If you have upgraded your client, you need to upgrade your admin as well; it's simple as that. Trying to downgrade is not a good idea any better than downgrading 10.4.8 to 10.4.7 - you're better off backing up and re-installing.

You should upgrade your client at the same time as your admin by using the 3.1 admin updater. It will keep the two in sync. If you have updated your client separately, it's time to update the admin as well.

Since 3.1 is an updater, if you are trying to setup ARD 3.0 (as a new admin machine) which has already been updated to 3.1 client, you will get an error about the client being too new. You need to do this:

Right-click the ARD 3.0 installer package.
Navigate to Contents > Installers
Run the Admin and RMDB installers, but not the client (it's the one that's preventing the ARD 3.0 super-installer from wanting to install)
Now update to ARD 3.1.
