Q: El Capitan & Hercules RMX dj console

Hi

I recently installed El Capitan but I'm having issues with my dj console.

The console runs via USB and Ive previously plugged it into a USB hub. Since using El Capitan I haven't been able to use my console at all. I purchased a powered USB 3 hub but that makes no difference. The console just flashes on and off to suggest there's no contact.
I used djay and virtual dj, but neither works.

Does anyone have any recommendations of how to get this to work, I notice other reported issues with the USB.

I'm about to do the drastic task of reverting back to Yosemite.

I'm also having problems with Mail, I can't seem to get any mail unless I use webmail

I'm not impressed with El Capitan, and after initially reading the problems I decided to hold off, I think I should have held off a lot longer.

I'm using a MacBook Pro, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16Gb RAM

Thanks for your input

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8), Mac G4, PC (XP), work on Mac G5

Did you check with Hercules to see if they have an El Capitan driver for your console? http://ts.hercules.com/eng/ If they don't, ask them why and when will the updated driver be available.

Hey there, Im having the exact same issue with my hercules rmx.

Have tried to troubleshooting it every which way (e.g. with usb power 2.0+3.0, reinstall latest driver, change usb chord) but no dice. Seems like its due to hercules latest drivers not being compatible. I wrote hercules this aft asking for support and/or info about drivers and can advise if/when they respond if you're still dealing with this.

Have you resolved this since initially writing about it?

I am over in the Hercules DJ Mix Room Forums working with the moderators there to find a solution.

They originally touted that a USB 3.0 powered hub would solve this problem, but it does not solve it for me. I have to reboot constantly and try to get the Mac to see the Hercules controller.

I'm hoping there is a solution soon, but it doesn't seem like it. The only thing to maybe do is roll back to Yosemite.

There are only two solutions as of right now.

The first one is to use a USB 2.0 powered hub with a 500 mA/5 volt port output.

The second is to use a short, shielded USB cable; preferably 6ft and not 10ft.

I had some shielded cables at home already, but they didn't seem to work well. I purchased a Belkin Premium USB 2.0 cable at Walmart, which was in the store for $19.99, but I found on Walmart.com for only $5.96! ( See: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Belkin-F3U163-06GR-WH-Belkin-Premium-6-USB-Cable/14321 293 ). It seems to be better at staying connected with El Capitan and Traktor Pro can see the Hercules controller.

However, you must always restart with the USB cable plugged in. If you unplug the cable, El Capitan loses the connection and plugging it back in does not work. It will not automatically see the connection if you simply unplug and replug. It will only work on restart, which is not ideal, of course. But, it's the best so far.

I tried the Insignia 2.0 powered USB hub from Best Buy and the Hercules flashed both sides, then only one side. Maybe another manufacturers USB will work, but I tried an older Staples one with the Insignia power cable, because they were both the same. Both the Insignia and Staples one didn't work. So, I'd go more for the USB 2.0 cable than hub.

I got a message from Hercules themselves through tech support and they said that it's an Apple issue and they are working on a fix, but they did not specific when.

    Hello,

Apple has released Mac OS 10.11.4, which "Fixes an issue that caused USB audio devices to disconnect".

It solves the Rmx issue completely on all the Mac with USB 3.0 ports I have tested, even without the USB hub.

I am still having issues connecting the controller to my computer. all the controller does it blink. I also bought the USB 3.0 hub but that didn't work either. Are there any other suggestions?

This is not true. I updated  to 10.11.4 and while it slightly fixed the issue, it did not fix it completely. In fact, I reinstalled the driver from Hercules and that broke it again after updating to 10.11.4. So, I would not update to 10.11.4 and then reinstall the Hercules driver, because that screws everything up again and you possibly have to reinstall 10.11.4 to fix again.

Even if you do install 10.11.4, you still have to reboot your computer every time you want to attach your controller.

I'm basically selling my controller and moving on. Time to go to something that actually works.

You can downgrade to Maverick. It works perfectly in Maverick.
