Hi. I have been given an Apple TV, and I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. But I do not have a HDTV television.
Can I connect the Apple TV device to my Mac and view my Mac as a television?
I tried and played about with System Prefs- Display - mirroring, but no screen appeared on my Mac.

The Apple TV is designed to bring "smart" technology to the big screen in your living room. Everything that you access on the ATV is already available to you on the MacBook. You AirPlay from the MacBook/iPad/iPhone to the Apple TV but you cannot AirPlay from an Apple TV to a MacBook/iPad/iPhone...

Ok.Thank you for the clarification. I asked as I recall on my MacBook Pro 2010 I had some kind of media center by Apple, with a remote control supplied with the laptop and a receiver on the front of the laptop. The interface looked like the Apple TV .. but on my Macbook. I thought I could do that once again. Thanks.
That was front row and was part of OSX, the feature was removed some time ago. The 1st gen Apple TV used a similar framework but the device was always meant to be connected to a TV
