I added a folder to the sidebar to use as a temporary shortcut so I could collect, rename, and save a bunch of files. Now when I click on the folder and drag off the Finder Window, it refuses to leave the Sidebar. Any fixes? I haven't been able to find any.
Try right-clicking (control click) on the folder in the sidebar in Finder and then click "Remove from Sidebar."
That does not work either. However, as a last resort, I did reboot the Mac Pro, and the folder is gone from the Sidebar. This should not be necessary.
This has also happened to me. Restarting did not get rid of it, but running the "Appearance of folders' content" option under the Maintenance/Rebuilding tab on Onyx did the trick.
I am also facing exactly same issue. I had added a folder to sidebar as a quick jump shortcut, and now when I am done with that project it doesn't allow me to remove it from sidebar. I tried dragging, can see puff icon appearing but nothing else happens. Then I did the right-click way, but no result.
There were total 3 such folders which I had added and to my surprise, its just 1 folder which is refusing to be removed from Sidebar. Other 2 were removed in first attempt itself (Dragging outside the finder window way).
I tried restart too, but no luck. I am not able to find "Maintenance/Rebuilding" anywhere as @Mavent mentioned in another reply. Any clue?
Did you try to relaunch Finder before rebooting?
Press Command + Option + Esc, select Finder then click Relaunch.
He was referring to an app called Onyx which can be downloaded from Titanium Software.
Same thing happened to me just now. Right click the folder and select remove from side bar as usual. Then, open Finder > Preferences. Then close the finder window. Deselect and select one of the tickable items from favorites section. Open the finder window the folder should be gone. This trick worked for me without restarting the system.
Worked like a charm... Thank you! Just make sure you read exactly what SukruOzan wrote and “deselect and select an item in the FAVORITES section”. I didn’t do that the first time.
chroot, worked like a charm and so easy!
This is a bit quicker. Right-click the folder and choose "Remove From Sidebar". Then drag one of the other sidebar icons to a different position. The first folder will disappear as the sidebar reorganizes itself.
chroot's solution worked for me (relaunch finder), but it also cleared the other items from my sidebar. There has to be a more precise method?
