Q: how do i recover photos from appletv photostream on a pc

recently wiped my iphone 5s when i had to give it back to employer after moving to competitor.  In my haste to offload my data, wiped the phone without backing up to icloud.  thought photos were lost, but when i turned on appletv, in the screensaver there are my lost photos from the phone!!  photos appear in the appletv photostream only, and i'm not able to see them on icloud.  how can i retrieve these photos from appletv's cache/photostream.  I have a pc running windows 10, no other apple products.

Apple TV, Windows 10

I think this should help but it may just load photos taken after its installed... My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support

    Windows PC

When you turn on Photos, iCloud for Windows creates a Photos folder in File Explorer called iCloud Photos. My Photo Stream automatically downloads any new photos that you take on your iOS devices to the Downloads folder.

You can also use these steps to see your photos on your PC:

    • Windows 10: Enter iCloud Photos in the Search the web and Windows bar. When you see it in the search results, select iCloud Photos Desktop app.
    • Windows 8.1: From the Start screen, click in the bottom-left corner, then click iCloud >iCloud Photos app.
    • Windows 8: From the Start screen, select iCloud Photos.
    • Windows 7: Click the Windows Start button, then click Pictures. Click iCloud Photos or Photo Stream under the Favorites menu in the panel on the left. Double-click My Photo Stream to view your photos. This also shows up as a folder in the window that appears.

The screensaver photos are temporarily cached and can be easily erased by selecting another source, there is no user accessible storage. The photo stream will only hold up to 1,000 photos for 30 days. If they are truly still in the photo stream you would be able to go to iCloud.com and see them, otherwise you won't be able to retrieve them.

It's best to have a regular backup routine, and not only to the cloud but locally as well.

Important to always backup, the Apple TV is a streaming device.
