How to re-open last closed tab?

Under the History menu in Safari, there is a menu item "Reopen last closed window." A few minutes ago, I accidentally closed one tab in a window where 5 tabs had been open, leaving four open. I discovered there seems to be no way to reopen last closed tab. When I selected the menu item ""Reopen last closed window," the accidentally-closed tab did not reappear. Rather the last closed window reopened. It had four tabs (from yesterday), all of them different from the tabs in the window that was already open. It would be helpful to have a way to "Reopen last closed tab." Is there a way to do this?
