Q: FWIW, OSX 10.11.2 Update available

To anyone interested, OS X 10.11.2 just popped up on the Mac App Store.

Also an El Capitan Recovery update.

No combo or separate down load from download site yet.

Waiting for the combo update to be available.  Seems App Store updates have been

    somewhat hinkey lately.

Also, FWIW, new Watch and iOS updates (and of course Xcode to support changes).

I heard a deep beep noise halfway through the installation bar in the update screen, then the computer sort of restarted 3-4 times but failing, meaning it went from the installation screen to restart sounds and black screen but then it failed to go back to the installation screen to complete the process, did this 3-4 times as said, then it finally succeeded and went back to the installation screen, and finished installing and then restarted properly. This has happened only through the last few updates. Never before. I always sweat thinking it will get stuck in some loop. Should I worry? I'm on a 2011 machine. No other problems whatsoever... Now everything works just fine, it's during the installation of the new updates that it goes spazz.

it's possible beep is related to a firmware change and I wouldn't get worried unless it happened and smoke (and/or flames) followed.

I'm about to DL on my 2010 and let you know if mine beeps too. Screen Shot 2015-12-08 at 3.09.42 PM.png

Heheh nope no smoke or flames, it didn't even heat up actually!

I mean it goes pretty smooth, just halfway through the installation something happens.

As said it looks like it can't manage to restart properly, so it tries 3-4 times (after the beeping), then it finally manages and continues to install.

This has been happening with all of the recent OS X updates.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Edit: Why don't my Mac characteristics appear at the end of my replies, like they do when I open a new thread myself?! It's useful for others to see what machine I'm on...

Probably due to some driver updates which by their nature require

restarts.  If all is working well, no need to be concerned.  A bit more

"verbosity" on what is going on would be nice.

    Downloading the combo update now.

Download OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 Combo Update

Surprisingly, not much larger than incremental.

No, as said everything is normal and everything works.

I'm sorry but I just don't know what goes on technically, so it's kinda hard to put into words.

Also English is not my mother tongue...

When the download from the App Store is over, the computer will prompt you to restart.

At that point the installation screen with the  logo appears, and the bar with the installation progress underneath it.

About halfway through the bar, it says 11 mins remaining, I hear a loud but deep beep sound, and the screen goes black and I hear the normal restart sounds.

(But the installation wasn't through, so I don't think we're done and it's a normal restart, but still, it could be part of the installation.)

A few seconds of black then the screen goes back to the installation one, but it's slightly more bright and blueish and the progress bar is empty not halfway filled, it's obvious that it's some sort of spazz or not complete version of the installation screen.

Screen goes to black again, and I hear the restart sounds again, screen goes back to spazz screen again, screen goes back to black, I hear restart sounds again, finally screen goes back to the normal installation one I'd left in the beginning, with 11 mins remaining, and the installation continues until it ends, normally.

Guess I don't need to download it since I'm already 11.2 after the App Store update.

Well, initial update of my early 2011 2.7 GHz i7 13" Macbook Pro using the combo

updater did not produce any smoke or flames.

I did not see the phenomenon that apple warm had seen.  However, it did look like

there was a firmware update applied after the installer completed and reboot. So

far, my Windows10 virtual machine in VMware Fusion seems to be working okay.

    WiFi is okay.

any idea where the app store install went?

there is a El Capitan file in my applications folder but it's two months old an 125K

it's also not in my user/username/library/application support/app store
