If you do not, you may want to "Buy" it again (still on sale for $0).
Then make a Backup copy -OR- create an Installer thumb drive.

Yea , it was magic ethernet jack, she just plugged it in and everything was done and dusted in 10 min .

Dec 13, 2015 8:08 AM in response to appzennyby Grant Bennet-Alder,To avoid having to return to the genius Bar every time Mac OS X gets clobbered, you want to have El Capitan showing on your "Purchases" page in the Mac App Store. "Purchases" is accessed by clicking on the "Purchases" heading at the top. It will look something like this -- but yours will have different items on it:

If they did not associate it with your Apple ID, then at least test to see if you have access to your Purchases and Updates at the app store. If you do not, you will need to return to the store. Having your Apple ID associated with the app store download is extremely important or you will not be able to update any apps or reinstall the OS.
