How can I upgrade to 10.10 from 10.8.5?
Can one upgrade to Yosemite 10.10 from 10.8.5? Don't want Capitain. It may make software unusable,
If yes, how do I do this?

Only if you got Yosemite from the Mac App Store before El Capitan came out(log into it with the same Apple ID and click on the Purchases tab), or the people at a physical Apple Store say so.
