USB Superdrive will not operate

I have a USB Superdrive and it has functioned flawlessly for a few years on my MBP. It suddenly stopped accepting a disc. I have updated all software and restarted computer and it still does not accept a disc. So I tried my buddies superdrive thinking that it was just mine and his would not respond either. I have plugged my drive into 2 different computers and it is working flawlessly on them. The difference that I can see is that when it is plugged in and I look at the System Report the Extra Operating Current shows 0 on mine but 600 on another computer. Does anyone have any ideas that could help to get the USB Superdrive working on my computer again?

Hello, mundertakerc.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I understand that your SuperDrive doesn't work on your MacBook Pro but works on others. Can you reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac and test?

  1. Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
  2. If the drive repeatedly does not accept discs, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store.

I have done the SMC reset and it did not seem to work. I plugged in the Superdrive and it did the same thing, nothing. So.... I decided to try to log in as a guest, and when I plugged the Superdrive up, it worked and accepted discs. I then went back to my normal log in and it worked. It was joy that was short lived as when I put the computer to sleep and tried it this morning, it would not work again. So I logged in as a guest again, and it worked. I went back to my normal profile and it is working now. I have not tried to turn it off yet to see if it will still work. It seems to be something in the profile. I will test tonight when I put it to sleep after work and then try it again a few hours later. Any suggestions if it does not work?
