Dec 9, 2015 8:14 AM in response to kitchenrepby AmishCake,You'll need to create more space on the phone, or re-create the backup and reduce the size of the backup. If you still have the old device, you could also try syncing the content to iTunes, then sync that content to the new device instead of using a backup file.

May 28, 2016 6:38 PM in response to AmishCakeby hannah from ca,hi, quick question. How do you reduce the size of your backup? I had to switch iphones for a short time due to irreparable damage, and my temp one has less storage space than my last one. I have all my photos saved to my PC, but I'm concerned I won't be able to access my contacts. Do you have any advice?

May 28, 2016 6:42 PM in response to hannah from caby KiltedTim,You can't. The only way to do that would be to delete content on the old phone to reduce the space required, then make a new backup.

If you are concerned about your contacts - sync them with iCloud and also look in the app store for a free Contacts backup app and use that to email a spreadsheet containing the current contacts to yourself for safe keeping
To reduce the size of the backup upon RE creating it - would mean no photos, no music and other large files
