You will have to check your setting for Hardware Keyboard for Hungarian. Settings for Hardware keyboard are separate from those for the screen keyboard. There may be a setting for Hungarian Qwerty. If not, then there is really nothing you can do other than use ABC Extended, which is qwerty but quite different for accented characters, or ask Apple to add Hungarian Qwerty in a future update, via

Could you provide some more details? Have you used Control plus Space to make sure you are set to the language you want to use? What hardware keyboard exactly did you select?

It is a keyboard cover sold to the smaller (and newer) iPad Pro. Like on the screen, you choose your language by pushing the key with a globe symbol on it. At any rate, now it works. Apparently, the very act of opening the Hardware Keybords in Settings helps... Sorry for wasting your time, B.

Hi, I'm glad your reply helps others but unfortunately my problem persists. I use the Smart Keyboard for the iPad Pro.

The issue: in certain foreign keyboard layouts (like German or Hungarian and probably many others) the y and the z are switched. I want to use the qwerty layout in foreign languages. However, when I pick in Settings > General > Keyboards > Hungarian (qwerty), it reverts back to the qwertz layout when typing on the Smart Keyboard. The qwerty layout is correct when I use the on-screen keyboard.

Any ideas?

Under the Hungarian keyboard there are three options: Automatic, Hungarian and ABC-Extended. Picking the ABC Extended layout I don't get the Hungarian accents at all, even though it switch to the Hungarian keyboard layout from English. So that's obviously a bug, ABC Extended doesn't do anything.

It's not a bug, just (as I said) quite different, you have to use option key shortcuts for accented characters. A list of them is at

As for the shortcuts, it's not a viable option for me since I type fast. I'll just have to keep using the qwertz layout until this problem is be fixed by Apple.

Very useful mistake. I was starting to feel like throwing away my smart keyboard for the exact same reason. Well done.
