Q: Safari Not Loading Pages

For the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing problems with Safari (9.0.2) on my MacBook Air. Safari will operate normally for a time, then only partially load a page. Once it partially loads a page, it freezes the others or won't load them beyond what I can see before I scroll. Images and text are cut off mid-line, tabs refuse to close, and I end up force-quitting Safari. I don't have this problem in Chrome or Firefox on my Air, and there are no issues with the iOS version of Safari.

So far I have:

removed and reinstalled Safari

removed and reinstalled Flash

removed and reinstalled LastPass (the only extension I run in Safari)

cleared the history, cache, and cookies

I am running an early 2014 13-inch MacBook Air with a 1.4 GHz i5 and 8 GB ram; El Capitan (10.11.2); Safari version 9.0.2.

Thanks.

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

        Delete com.apple.Safari.plist file and test.

        Empty the Trash.

        Quit all applications.

Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.

Select "Library" from the drop down.

        Library > Preferences >  com.apple.Safari.plist

Right click on it and select "Move it to Trash".

        Close the Finder window.

        Restart.    Relaunch Safari.

If this doesn’t help, “Put Back” the com.apple.Safari.plist

Right click on  the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”.

Right click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.

    Thanks for this.

It worked for a little while. I followed the instructions and used Safari for around 30 minutes, then it happened again. I was reading an article on a blog, navigated back to the homepage and it wouldn't load beyond the scroll. When I clicked back on the other tabs they were unresponsive and I quit Safari. Any other suggestions?

Are you running any adblocking software? Some apparently block more than adverts. Some other extensions can be troublesome, especially soon after a new release of Safari. Some extensions developers seem not to bother debugging their wares during the beta period (as they should) and wait until the final version is released and people complain before doing anything.

The easiest way to test is to temporarily turn off all extensions from Safari Preferences > Extensions tab.

No adblocker (for that very reason), just the native "no pop ups" in Safari's preferences. I turned off the only extension I run (LasPass) and tested it. Again, it worked for about 20 minutes, then a page only loaded to the scroll point, the other pages froze, and I force-quit. Thanks though.

A valiant effort, Eric, but no dice.

I am having the same issue.  For the past 2-3 weeks, Safari Version 9.0.2 (11601.3.9) have frozen upon loading tabs.  I get the spinning wheel, the page does not load completely.  I test the page on Chrome and it loads just fine.  I only have one extension running for my password manager (roboform).  I have to force-quit several times per day.  I am on OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 (15C50).

There's no way you could have uninstalled and reinstalled Safari.  It comes packaged with the operating system.  In order to reinstall Safari, you have to reinstall the operating system.  So, I don't know what you did, but it's not what you thought you did.

Hi, I was wondering if you found a fix for this issue? I have noticed the same thing is happening to some webpages and that they will not fully load. I have done some creative testing and here is something I am noticing. As you stated it doesn't affect all pages only a slight few. I am not running any extensions under Safari and I have not edited, removed or uninstalled anything. I do notice that the issue does seem to happen on pages that are ad-heavy. For example, www.ign.com usually has an embedded ad that I can only describe as annoying as it resembles sort of a banner/background piece but as soon as you hover over the page it springs to life and beings to play a video at the top of the page (very annoying). I have also noted it to happen on www.9to5mac.com as well and seems to cut off the page after two or three articles and is at what I can only believe to be an ad on the page. Not sure if you or anyone else is noticing the same trends but I will add that I installed Wipr extension just now and when I reloaded the pages I had trouble with they fully loaded with no other issues.
