Cannot access wireless printer through bt homehub 5

I have recently bought a Brother DCP-J4120DW all in one wireless printer/scanner. Although it has connected to the home hub 5 without a problem, when I try to connect to the device from my iMac or MacBook wirelessly, nothing happens. Reading various posts on this, and other sites, the problem seems to be with the home hub. As a complete novice regarding these thing I would be obliged to anyone who can shed light on this, and explain it in layman's terms.

Thank's, in advance.

Did you confirm w/the manufacturer? What did they say?

Have you contacted Brother Support? Checked w/them regarding driver updates if needed?

Which OS is currently installed on your iMac?

Thank's for the reply BB.

I have checked with the router supplier ( BT ). They are not interested, because the broadband works OK.

OS X is El Capitan.

I have even replaced the printer, but still the same.

I am at the moment trying to find out what setting changes I can make in the router. I am convinced that this is the problem.

I'll let you know if I get anywhere.
