Q: eBay purchased Apple Watch

I have a watch that I purchased second hand.      My watch has arrived but is activation locked.

I've spoken to the seller; who has been fantastic.    Seller has called Apple (sharing with me original receipts and all support correspondence with Apple).   Obviously seller is unwilling to give me their iCloud credentials.

I presume, Apple CAN actually remotely remove the activation lock on this watch?

Has anyone else had any experience of this?    I've waited 48 hours already and a little fed up of the watch pairing animation now...

Return it for a refund. The seller should have removed the lock before posting it for sale.

They can remove the Activation Lock remotely. Send them this link: About Activation Lock on Apple Watch - Apple Support

    Hi,

I am currently going through the same issue but in reverse. I have sold my apple watch on ebay and followed un-pairing process to the letter. The device is not showing up as one of my devices in my apple ID account ever since. However the new buyer is saying that it is locked and he cannot make use of it. It is showing that it is locked but  no info  on to which account it is locked on. What else can i do, I reside in Malta and the new buyer is in the UK.

You may have to offer a refund or offer to try to fix the problem.

    Otherwise the product won't work...

There are several items here, some relevant to Apple Watch:

    Good luck in this matter!

If the seller cannot clear the  Watch from the Activation Lock that  Watch will be of no value to you. Return it and demand a refund.

Yes, you are correct. I have offered all expenses to have it returned to me to re-set it and expedite it back to him at no cost for the buyer. Unfortunately that was the only solution to this impasse. What is driving me crazy is the fact that it is not showing up on my devices but nevertheless, it is still locked on to my account . I just cannot explain it.

    Thanks anyway

    Regards

You may be able to directly discuss the matter with an Apple Store product

specialist in a retail location, if no 'genius' staff is available in your location.

Or an authorized Apple service provider who can diagnose the Apple Watch.

Sorry to not be of much help, and was slightly surprised to see your inquiry

was in a pre-existing thread; but that's how this site's software works some

times. When searching for similar answers, it can put your new question in

an existing thread. A host could move your topic outside the existing one &

put that into its own, if you like.

At least you're on the correct track to help the buyer, but the Watch may have

some other technical problem, so the suggestion to have whatever level of

expert available to you, perform whatever diagnostic they can, is advised.

    Good luck in this matter!

Keep the faith!    The kind guy that sold me my watch reported the issue to Apple.  It took 3 days but my watch got unlocked.

The seller can remotely remove the Activation Lock on the  Watch. If the seller somehow cannot do this you should suspect that the "seller" is not the original owner of the  Watch and the watch was most likely obtained fraudulently. Return the  Watch and demand a refund. Then purchase a new  Watch from a legitimate source.

Well, not exactly so and I am a victim of this. The seller can only remove the activation lock remotely if the device is showing up as one of his/her devices. In my case, I de-paired it from my devices as per instruction and the watch was returned to factory setting as if out of the box. Only after the new owner (in another country) tried to pair to it did it show up as still locked on to my account. Unfortunately your statement that "the watch was most likely obtained fraudulently" is not helping the situation. I raised the issue here because there should be a way for any  user to see all items that are locked on to one's account. Now i know that this is not so and It is of some concern. Since the apple watch can only be deactivated by entering the one's log in and password directly onto it, I have offered the new owner all expenses paid to have it expedited back to me and sent back to him.

With details of first-hand account in this area, you could send Apple Feedback

these findings and the situation, so they may be more aware of them...

Thank you for your determined effort to do the correct path even at extra cost to you.

I know that if or when I happen to purchase another device linked to an AppleID,

other than new or from a store which may redistribute a pre-owned one, I'll be more

aware of these kind of details which could make for less difficulty and hope someone

as effective as you will take the time and effort to set things right.

    Best regards!
