Login items disappearing from list after reboot

After updating OS X, I noticed, that some application not running after rebooting (for example Google Drive or iMessages). In "System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Items" list contain only one item (dropbox), but it should contained other apps.

I manually add all needed apps, reboot system. Apps launching at login. But in "Login Items" again only one item - dropbox. After second reboot - only dropbox launching.

Why custom Login list disappear after reboot?

P.S.: sorry, for bad english

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)

from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.

☞ Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?

☞ In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?

☞ What is the Modified date?

If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

So I was having the same issues, but I think that I found the fix, and it wasn't what was mentioned above. Go to the Apple menu and select restart. When the window pops up, "Open current windows after restart" (or something like that) uncheck that box. Not sure if this operation was somehow overwriting the login apps operation, but so far so good.

Okay, so I think that I found my culprit. Try this: add, one at a time, each of your login items and try rebooting. Then go to your login items under the "Users and Groups" panel in the sys prefs. If that item is still in there, then remove that one and add the next one, reboot and then check your login items again. Once I found the problem app, it consistently flushed my login items every time. I went to their website and found a newer version of the software that seemed to have fixed the problem. It seems that El Cap has changed their security protocol and some app makers haven't updated their apps post 10.11 release.

Hello,

CleanMyDrive 2 is working in Sandbox mode, and can't modify the following file, again due to Sandbox:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist

We simply don't have an access to other LoginItems.

We're aware of this issue that, surprisingly, seems to be caused by a bug in OS X that makes login items disappear after a restart (but not after a logout). During our tests the previously added items remained active and opened on startup despite no records of them in the login items list.

A workaround for this will be implemented in the upcoming updates, and the issue will be reported to Apple. Hopefully, this will be addressed in the OS X updates as well.
