Dec 11, 2015 7:43 AM in response to steve3174by joe_7399,Hello steve3174,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you media is on an external Seagate NAS and you would like to be able to access that music on your iPad. One option to accomplish this is Home Sharing. I would suggest reading the following article for information on Home Sharing to see if it will meet your needs.
Use Home Sharing to share iTunes content with other devices - Apple Support
Cheers!

Dec 11, 2015 12:55 PM in response to joe_7399by steve3174,Thanks Joe,
I wanted to be able to use just the iPad and NAS and Bluetooth speaker to play ALAC files from the NAS.
At present I can play from the iPad / NAS to the Bluetooth speaker using the Seagate Media app or an app called PlayerExtreme but their presentation / user friendliness is not good (in my opinion).
While I can use a PC also with jRiver or iTunes I was hoping to not have to use a PC and just the iPad / NAS/Bluetooth Speaker if possible but have a well presented music player.

Dec 11, 2015 1:22 PM in response to steve3174by steve3174,VLC Player app on the iPad also works and is a bit more functional. But nothing with the presentation of other music players that can run on a NAC or PC.
Maybe just a limitation of iPad's ability.
