rMB Battery has died

Hi

Bought my rMB in May 2015, but now the battery appears completely dead.

I had a small issue a week or two back, but all seemed fine. Last night I was running it on battery (90-something% full) and it suddenly died. Would not power up no matter what I did.

Left it charging on a regular USB cable (not the power brick), so only small current input

This morning tried to switch it on and it would not power up.

Plugged it in to the official Apple charger and after a few seconds it made the charging noise and then powered up.

Said battery was not charging, but was 94% full. Battery status said poor - replace immediately.

As soon as I puled the power cord, the machine shut down.

Appears that the battery is not charging and not providing power to the machine.

Anyone else had this issue? What should I do?

Hi KidasDave,
Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your battery on your MacBook Pro. Let's see if we can get that sorted out.
From the article below, I would suggest resetting the SMC. Doing this will reset the connection with the battery and the charger among other items like the fans running at high speeds. Take a look at the articles below for more details on resetting the SMC and other troubleshooting options for your battery.

It's still under warranty, make an appointment with Apple Repair.

I bought it from an independent retailer, so I took it back to them for repair. They will take around a month to fix the issue. And in the mean time wipe the main disk.

That's a significant inconvenience.

My concern here is that it had been through only 99 charge/discharge cycles before it became unusable. I use it for travel (in the last month I have been in China, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium , UK, Colombia, Guatemala, Vietnam, UK ). If I cannot rely on the thing to function, do I have to turn away from Mac before I can have a reliable machine?

My main machine is a top-of-the line rMBP 15-inch , which is just about portable, but not really. I bought the rMB so that I can travel fairly light. I also have a 27-inch iMac for when I need a big screen

Reliable equipment is an absolute priority for my business. Apple's superior design is nice to have, but a secondary concern.

Yesterday I bought a top of-the-line Windows-10 based laptop for one of my colleagues to see how it performs. I am seriously considering moving away from Macs as I feel I can no longer trust their build quality.
