Q: CardDav sync issue after upgrading to 10.11.2

Hey guys,

Is anyone else having issue with Contacts app freezing/spinning beach ball when trying to edit cards? It may be a coincidence but I have narrowed it down to the upgrade.

My setup...

- OS X Server 10.10.5 (around 6000 contacts cards)

- MacBook Pro running 10.11.2 (the one with the issue)

- MacBook Pro running 10.11.1 (no problems)

- iPhone 6s Plus 9.2 (all working fine)

What I have tried...

- On the 'affected' Mac [10.11.2] I have install iCloud to test the contacts app and it seems to be working fine, so this negates the issue with my Mac or the system

- On the Mac running 10.11.1 all seem to be working fine with both CardDav and iCloud

- I am running BusyContacts to test the CardDave server and this also works fine

- The contacts app on the iPhone can edit/create/delete contacts fine.

- Have also tried to delete the account on the affected Mac and install the CardDav account again and although I get no errors when adding the account, I don't get any contacts showing up in the app.

Conclusion...

- With the tests it seems that the server is running fine.

- It just seems that it may very well be the upgrade that's causing the issue.

Would be good to see if anyone else is having this problem with the say type of setup.

Thanks.

    The reason for the spinning wheel seems to be a sandbox issue. Check the console when using Contacts. You will see

    messages such as

    com.apple.AddressBook.InternetAccountsBridge[2471]: dnssd_clientstub ConnectToServer: connect()-> No of tries: 2

    sandboxd[127]: ([2471]) com.apple.Addres(2471) deny network-outbound /private/var/run/mDNSResponder

    everytime the spinning wheel starts.

    Since there are many retries before giving up the wheel spins quite long every time mDNSResponder is requested.

    I also have this annoying issue, on 3 different Macs since running OSX 10.11.x. I am syncing with the Fruux carrddav service and noticed that syncing with iCloud works as a charm-- the CardDav protocol apparently somehow is broken.

    Since it is an (extremely annoying) Apple bug, I hope they take care and fix it in the next OSX update (now running OSX 10.11.2).

    Same thing here. El Capitan 10.11.2. Syncing with Google Contacts (tried both CardDav and standard Google Contacts configuration). Always get:

    16/01/2016 12:38:39.407 com.apple.AddressBook.InternetAccountsBridge[2841]: dnssd_clientstub ConnectToServer: connect() failed path:/var/run/mDNSResponder Socket:4 Err:-1 Errno:1 Operation not permitted

    Extremely annoying!

    Same issue here spent an evening getting Carddav to speak to my Owncloud installation, only to find out after the first successful sync that the contact app goes crazy and fills the log with:

    18/01/16 22:43:20,000 kernel[0]: Sandbox: com.apple.Addres(1280) deny(1) network-outbound /private/var/run/mDNSResponder

    and

    18/01/16 22:43:20,916 com.apple.AddressBook.InternetAccountsBridge[1280]: dnssd_clientstub ConnectToServer: connect()-> No of tries: 3

    I have installed a fresh Mac with the 10.11.3 beta (and final) as well as 10.11.4 beta and still having the same issue.

    If I install 10.11.1 on the Mac then all works fine. So it HAS to be an issue that was introduced with 10.11.2 as this is when it 'stopped working'

    iCloud contacts work just fine with all versions, but any other CardDav server, whether it's Google, OwnCloud, OS X Server just will not behave on the Mac client.

    I have sent report after report on this issue, and since found out loads of other are also having this issue, so we all need to send bug reports into Apple for them to make any kind of notice.

    Hi all,

    This solved my issue.

    I disabled the contacts option under the Google selection in Internet accounts in preference. I then manually added Google as a CardDav account.

    Problem solved! It appears there is some sort of sandboxing configuration issue with Apple's new implementation of the "idiot proof" Google contacts checkbox. Going back to the old school way of doing it seems to have fixed the issue. Sync works fine and there are no constant denials by the sandbox daemon to look use the DNS resolver daemon, and the beach ball delay to editing, adding, or removing contacts is gone.

    For the rest of the details on my attempts to solve this issue, see here: Re: I consistently get the spinning beach ball of death adding or editing contacts since upgrading to El Capitan.

    I can confirm though, what others have reported already: since 11.11.3 the beachball phenomenon stops if you do two things:

    - reconfigure your access to Google Contacts to use *CardDav* rather than going through the default account configuration and clicking contacts in Google

    - you have to allow "less secure" programs login to your google account. That's somewhere under My account -> sign in, security of your Google account.

    Good luck
