Q: CardDav sync issue after upgrading to 10.11.2

Hey guys,

Is anyone else having issue with Contacts app freezing/spinning beach ball when trying to edit cards? It may be a coincidence but I have narrowed it down to the upgrade.

My setup...

- OS X Server 10.10.5 (around 6000 contacts cards)

- MacBook Pro running 10.11.2 (the one with the issue)

- MacBook Pro running 10.11.1 (no problems)

- iPhone 6s Plus 9.2 (all working fine)

What I have tried...

- On the 'affected' Mac [10.11.2] I have install iCloud to test the contacts app and it seems to be working fine, so this negates the issue with my Mac or the system

- On the Mac running 10.11.1 all seem to be working fine with both CardDav and iCloud

- I am running BusyContacts to test the CardDave server and this also works fine

- The contacts app on the iPhone can edit/create/delete contacts fine.

- Have also tried to delete the account on the affected Mac and install the CardDav account again and although I get no errors when adding the account, I don't get any contacts showing up in the app.

Conclusion...

- With the tests it seems that the server is running fine.

- It just seems that it may very well be the upgrade that's causing the issue.

Would be good to see if anyone else is having this problem with the say type of setup.

Thanks.

Same issue here, running all the latest OSX Server and OSX on a MACPRO & MACBOOK... Works well on my IOS 9 phones, ipads etc..

Spent hours trying to understand, deleted accounts, recreated them.

Had to use the full ip-adress and path to make this work again, but this does not help either regarding the spinning wheel...

Hope Apple will fix this. OSX Server is what I want to use but as time and repeated update problems I start thinking about real

    alternatives if any.

    Feedback appreciated.

    Thanks

    S.R.

Same here. I also run OS X Server in my business because we are an all Mac company.  It worked before 10.11.

This problem has rendered our synced contacts with our servers unusable -- and this is a large part of our sales business... managing contacts.

I really, really want to continue to use OS X Server, but it seems that Apple doesn't give a crap about us business customers unless we are buying new iPhones and iPads.

I filed a bug report only to have it closed by Apple because it was a duplicate of 22369064.

I too, am now looking for an alternative solution.

I just wanted to point out that OS X Server isn't the problem... it's a bug in your El Capitan clients. I'm having the same issue with both FastMail and fruux (both using CardDAV), and others have had that same issue with Google contacts. Only iCloud seems to work without issues.

I was able to fix the problem following the procedure described here: https://gist.github.com/mems/57a34fcf89441ae96b0d

if you have FileVault enabled the procedure required to edit applications.sb is not the same as described on the link, Ctrl-R boot, unlock, mount and edit the file on the mounted location.

be sure to understand what you're doing, be very very careful while editing applications.sb and double check you changes before saving the file.

Has anyone tried this in 10.11.5 Beta 3 (15F28b) ?   I'm not clear on whether that's a public or private beta but I've heard good news that it may be fixed?

Just tried and it does seem to be fixed. No beachballs when editing.

I also tried on 10.11.5 Beta and it works better than in 10.11.4.

No beachball, but when I type into the fields, the charactes appear a little bit delayed in the field (about half a second). But this is much better and makes contacts usable again.

I've been really disappointed with Apple's business support on their server product. At this point my mac Yosemite 10.11.4 clients are no longer able to successfully sync carddav to our Yosemite server. I hope they fix it with the next OS release.

For me it is fixed in 10.11.5! Wow took long but finally ;-)

For me it is also fixed, though the little delay by typing the charactes still remains. But now Contacts app is usable again.

I agree, fix took a very very long time.

For the record, I believe this was fixed in the 10.11.5 update...
