Q: intern. HD full, prohibitory sign @start up-need to delete files in recovery m. but files are read only

Just got the "no disk space" notice pop- up, 2 mins after, my mac air shut down. When I restarted, a prohibitory sign on a grey screen haulted me to regular startup. (circle with back slash across it) can only start in internet recov. & recovery mode. In recovery mode I tried to delete some braille directories & looked up few other directories/apps/files i might be able to include, including Adobe Acrobat. I tried to delete in terminal. All i get is READ ONLY at the end of my command. How can i change the permissions from read only so i can delete? Or does anyone know another way to free up space in terminal, in recovery mode without harming my system? AND NO I do NOT have a current back up. My two ext. Seagates are now giving blinking lights when plugging in mac. yes, tried in more than 1 mac.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), mid 2011
