How do I extract audio from a movie stored in Photos?

I have a new iPhone 6S Plus. Great phone, and it records great.

On my Mac, OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan

I used phone and recorded a concert recently. I had a bugger of a time getting the movies off my phone. Is there a way to see the file directory of my phone?

I finally got the movie into Photos. Now I can't seem to do anything with them. I want to extract the audio from the movies and make a CD of the concert.

I have found some third-party software, but they can't see Photos.

Also, the movies seem to have maxed out my iCloud storage. Another problem, but related. What is the best way to store/backup these images on my computer so that they are accessible from the finder and won't get deleted by syncing?

This is a bit nuts, imo. Should be a lot more compatible and intuitive.

Thanks for your help.

Export the movie from Photos: File -> Export, Export Unmodified: Original

That's it out of Photos.

Going forward, use Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) for material like this.

As for extracting the soundtrack. Open the movie in QT player and then export it as Audio Only

Export audio only using QuickTime Player 10

QuickTime Player gives you the option of exporting and sharing only the audio portion of your video. To export only the audio portion of your video, open your video in QuickTime Player. Choose Export from the File menu. Type a name in the “Export As” field. Then from the Format pop-up menu, choose “Audio Only” and click Export

Do you have GarageBand installed? It usually comes for free with a new Mac.

GarageBand can show you the videos in your Photos Library in the Media Browser and separate the audio track from the video.

  • Click the MediaBrowser icon, click Movies, click Photos.
  • Drag the video to an empty spot in the TrackArea.

Then you can bounce the audio track as a song to iTunes, using the Share menu.

In iTunes add the songs to a playlist and burn the playlist as an audio CD.
