iTunes match is automatically downloading songs to phone

iTunes match is automatically downloading all songs to my iPhone once they have been matched/uploaded. I don't see any settings to stop this and only download specified tracks. Any ideas?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.0.2

Well, for many months the problem I was having with my iTunes Match was fixed. I had thought I had fixed the problem with the app "Battery Doctor" which cleans the temp. cache and freezes up all the temp music files that are stored on your iphone once you listen to them. However with ios 10.3.2 it started happening again and Battery Doctor isn't cleaning anytime.


I was continually having less than 200 mb storage left on my phone and I couldn't increase it so I turned off iCloud Music Library and got back 5 GB. However everytime I turn it back on,my phone downloads "stuff"until my storage is is full. I have no idea what it's downloading but I can't stop it.


HELP.

What is going on here! I have used iTunes Match for years with no problems. Yesterday I decided to add some new music on my Mac to get pulled into Match since the limit of songs was raised. The next thing you know I'm seeing warning about my iPhone being full. Took a look and the iPhone was auto downloading all the new music I had added to iTunes on the Mac.


There appears to be no way to stop this download.


PLEASE HELP!!!!

I am not sure. It seems to be random when and what is downloaded. It will download partial albums, rarely the entire one. You can cancel active downloads. When downloading, there should be a progress bar that says Downloading or something at the top of the main MyMusic tab. You should be able to scroll to the bottom and tap cancel all downloads. I have not found a setting to ask before downloading.


Has your limit been raised? I dont think mine has. I matched all of my songs, then added a bunch more to put me at 26,500. The additional tracks are stuck "Waiting" and do not match/upload.


I like the idea behind Match, but I have had nothing but problems since switching to it after my free trial of Apple Music expired.

Yes, completely random here as well. I am able to cancel the download, but they are immediately replaced with the next in line. I added about 300 new tracks into iTunes on the Mac. I could find no way to cancel the process in iTunes.


For whatever reason the downloads seem to have paused/stopped - not sure why.


LIke you - at one time I had Apple Music demo and I can't help but think this is related to that. For years before Apple Music I never had a problem with iTunes Match. Matter of fact it was on the great track record of iTunes Match that I had high hopes for and signed up for Apple Music. I was not happy with Apple Music and discontinued it.

Mine stops downloading, but like you, I have no idea why.


I have been dealing with Apple for 2.5 months trying to get the Match service to work after leaving Apple Music. I just now have it working with the majority of my tracks matched/uploaded. I hope they can work out some of these downloading issues. My fear is that they just push people to go with Apple Music and they abandon the Match service.

Seeing the same issue.


upgraded to 9.2 on my iPad and iPhone yesterday then subscribed to iTunes Match on my iMac.


TUrned on iCloud Match on my iPhone and iPad.


iPad working as expected.


Overnight my iPhone kept alerting me to low on storage.


Music appears to trying to download 10,000 songs onto my iPhone.


in the last 65 mins, since taking it off the charger, battery has dropped from 100% to 26%


i have rebooted the iPhone twice. The last time after turning Off iCloud Music.


this problem appears to have made the iPhone unusable

mmmm getting worse


have connected to my Mac to back it up so I could try a wipe and restore.

Not so much - clicking on Back Up Now doesn't have any effect :-( It reports that 'Your iPhone has never been backed up to this computer' I was using Cloud Backups - but want to ensure a full backup before wipe and restore.


Having had to wipe and restore my iPhone 5S many times in the last few months (my Mac was updated building a new install of El Capitan hence no previous backup of iPhone)


Even with Airplane Mode on I am still losing 1% per minute of battery, giving my iPhone a 100 minute battery life - even with no apps running.


I can't backup - so can't do a wipe and restore.


Hard Reboots have no effect.


I do have a 22400mAH portable battery, if I keep the iPhone connected while away from mains power I can extend use of the phone to just over 6 hours.


Guess it is time to start looking at an Android phone and hope it is more reliable :-)

Just tried clearing out everything in Music app on iPhone and re-enabled iCloud Match (now labeled iTunes Cloud Library in settings) andbthe phone started filling up with music and battery started plummeting.


At this point i have to turn of iTunes Match on the phone to keep phone from filling and blowing battery, which means I'm paying for iTunes Match but am unable to use it. Starting to get really frustrated by Apple's quality control over the last 5 years!

I have been able to return my iPhone 6 and iPad Air iOS 9.2 to a usable state (not fixed, but usable) with Music Match by doing the following:


iOS

  1. Disable iTunes Match (Settings > Music > iCloud Music Library [OFF])
  2. Delete all music files that have been downloaded to iOS device so far (Settings > General > Storage and iCloud Usage > Manage Storage > Music [DELETE])


Mac iTunes

DELETE all newly added tracks in iTunes (for me this is what triggered the problem, I added some new tracks to my iTunes Library). Make sure to DELETE not REMOVE DOWNLOAD or the problem will return.


iOS

Enable iTunes Match (Settings > Music > iCloud Music Library [ON])


This is NOT A SOLUTION APPLE! This worked just to get me back to the pre-IOS 9.2 state with all my PREVIOUSLY added tracks. Adding any new tracks or probably purchasing new tracks will more than likely trigger the issue again and files will download to your device.

Yes - as soon as you add anything new to iTunes it will download ONLY that newly added stuff to your iOS devices.


I have filed a Developer Bug Report with Apple and referenced this thread. Odd there seems to be so few experiencing this. I guess until your device fills up or battery drains in a matter of minutes you don't really notice it.
