Q: How to move photos from a camera to an external hard drive?

I've done this before plugging each one into my iMac but I cannot remember the proper sequence and the steps it takes to complete the transfer of photos from my camera to my external hard drive. Thanks for any suggestions.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.5.7)

The easiest method, is to take the SD card out of the camera, then insert it into the SD slot on the side of your 2011 27" iMac and copy and paste the photos from the SD card to your EHD.

I tried that solution but I have 850 photos on the SD card and I'm trying to figure a way to drag them to the external drive as you suggested.

All you do is select one photo on the SD card. Then type Command + A and that will select all of the photos. Next type Command + C (this is the copy shortcut) and then navigate to the location  you want the pictures on the EHD and type Command + V (this is the paste shortcut) and you are done.

I recently transferred over 1000 pics from a sd card to my external drive.  I did it the old school way:

    Highlighted one pic.

    Edit>Select All

Dragged all 1000+ pics onto the external drive at the same time.

I really need to learn all these keyboard shortcuts. I have begun to take notes because I can't remember them all. hidemf3.gif

I actually have that Article in my notebook.  Thank you for the reminder.  I am in the process of highlighting the short cuts that I want to remember.

The only ones I know by heart are screenshots.  I use iClip for cut & paste so that's already covered.

Thank you. That solved my problem. Also others who also came up with it but you were first.

Or, even better, do it using the App designed for the job: Image Capture (in the Applications Folder)
