SuperDrive burning very slowly on El Capitan

My SuperDrive has been running very slow lately while burning data CDs. Tonight I just realized it probably started happening around the time I upgraded to El Capitan (10.11.1). I burn batches of CDs for my photography business just a few times a month, but when I do, I need to burn 20-30, and the added delay is very noticeable. I would estimate it is 3x-4x longer to burn.

I use the utility Burn (v 2.5.1 http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/) to make data CDs around 300-400mb. Standard JPEG files. I haven't changed any settings in Burn, or done anything else I can associate with the slowdown. The clock on Burn ticks down the time remaining, and each second takes 2-4 real seconds before it changes.

I havn't changed any hardware etc., so unless SuperDrive is prone to getting slow in old age, I'm not sure what besides El Capitan that it could be.

Any suggestions?

I have a similar issue, mine is with audio cd and external burner.

Last week while i am still running Maverick, I was getting 16X burn speed for Audio CD in itune using external USB 2.0 burner.

2 days ago, I upgraded from to El Capitan, using the same batch of blank, burner, I am getting only 4X burn speed.

In console log, disc recording is asking to burn at 4X instead of 16X in Maverick.. I tried to force it to burn at higher speed but the audio CD came out as corrupted.

Both itune and Burn get me the same result.

I believe there is a problem with El Capitan.

I have the same issue. Since upgrading to El Capitan, my external USB drive (Pioneer DVR-112D) has become ridiculously slow when burning audio CDs.

This is what the console said before moving to El Capitan:

iTunes: Burning to CD-R media with SAO strategy in PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D 1.21 via USB.

iTunes: Requested burn speed was max, actual burn speed is 40x.

iTunes: Burn underrun protection is supported, and enabled.

iTunes: Burn finished, Thu Feb 11 09:23:34 2016

This is what the console says with El Capitan:

iTunes: Burn started, Fri Mar 11 08:40:03 2016

iTunes: Burning to CD-R media with SAO strategy in PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D 1.21 via USB.

iTunes: Requested burn speed was 4x, actual burn speed is 4x.

iTunes: Burn underrun protection is supported, and enabled.

iTunes: Burn finished, Fri Mar 11 08:59:38 2016

Needless to say, I did not change any settings. It seems as if El Capitan is forcing iTunes to burn at 4x.
