Save Garage Band files

I'm a music teacher planning a month-long Garage Band unit with iPads. In each class, they will work in pairs sharing 15 iPads. After one pair is done, pairs in 5 other classes will be using the same iPad before the original pair gets it back. How can students save their work so it won't be modified or deleted by kids in other classes?

Thanks rccharles, but iCloud accounts means setting kids up with Apple IDs, and our school district is very reluctant to do that because it involves getting parental permission for each kid (these are kids under 13). Apple does have an Apple ID for Students program to streamline the process but it only seems to be available in the USA, which doesn't help me.

Any third party solutions?

Thanks, but the likelihood of our school district's IT department allowing us to install a beta operating system on the school iPads is essentially nil. Are there any third party solutions? Our school uses Showbie, which has a Garageband support page which looked really promising at first. But it only allows you to save an .mp3 of the finished Garageband project. It doesn't let you save an in-progress Garage Band project that can be returned to later for further editing.

It's really surprising how difficult this is. If we had laptops or desktop Macs, this would be a piece of cake. I find the iPads so limiting in so many ways.
