Q: 4s sound issues after 9.2 update

Updated to iOs 9.2 and now can't hear sound for music, video, and some alerts. Settings all appear to be fine and speaker works for Siri, ringtones and alarms but not music, videos in any app, alert sounds such as when plugging in to charge or key clicks. Bluetooth and headphone jack work fine. When the speaker volume is pushed with side buttons you cannot see or adjust the volume - window comes up but the volume indicator scale (little boxes) are not visible. I've cleaned the headphone jack and adaptor plug with a soft brush, blew, sucked and also used canned air but nothing is working. I've reset twice and turned off and on 3 times. I'm out of ideas now. Any advice would be appreciated. I'd rather not upgrade because I don't like the larger size of the new phones And I'd rather stick to Apple as all my products are Mac.
