Q: Problems with Performance (kernel_task), Locking Up, Crashes in Diagnostic Reports, more

Hi, for the last several months I've been scouring the boards for help on a number of issues.  Wondering if someone can help me.

The issues that I've seen are:

- Lots of crash reports in DiagnosticReports on console

- Spike in memory usage of kernel_task

- Video or Flash freezes safari when watching videos

- Fan will run constantly and computer gets very hot in the area above the keyboard on the left side mostly

- System performance heavily bogging down, apparently due to these factors

- Computer will crash and when I restart I get a grey screen with relish lines across it. It will never start unless I reboot and use the internet recovery tool.

Below is an EtreCheck report that I ran about an hour ago after I got the computer restarted.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

A page fault error is memory. That is not to say your memory is bad. You have a lot of apps running in the background . You do not need the antivirus software.or  Clean my Mac. You should delete them. They both should have a built in uninstaller. The startup items are obsolete you need to update them or delete them. If you delete them, make sure to go to the website or get help to make sure you get all files. Someone else may have some more suggestions for you.

Thank you for the advice. I just purchased new memory from Other World Computing and I am certain it is compatible.

    16.0GB (2x 8GB) PC3-10600 DDR3 1333MHz SO-DIMM 204 Pin CL9 SO-DIMM Memory Upgrade Kit for 2011 MacBook Pro, Mid 2010-11 27" iMac Core i5/ i7, Mid 2011 Mac mini Core i5/i7 models.

I replaced the memory because I suspected this was a problem, but the issues have continued since the new RAM install. The computer crashes and hangs much less frequently with the new RAM. It was giving me issues several times a day and now only every two or three days.

I have removed Symantec Antivirus and didn't have Clan my Mac anymore, but removed the leftover .plist files. I will work on the startup items as well.

Do I need to address Launch Agent Failures:

    com.adobe.ARMDCHelper.cc24aef4a1b90ed56a...plist

    com.motive.userAgent.plist

    And Launch Daemons:

    com.motive.systemDaemon.plist

    pcloudd.plist

I have also pasted several lines from the console if that helps to diagnose my problems:

Do you have a subscription to PCloud? You OS comes with ICloud and 5GB free/with 50GB at only $.99 per month. Something to consider and it is already in you OS, but has to be activated.  http://www.apple.com/icloud/?cid=wwa-us-kwg-mac  Do you have or did you have Adobe photoshop? (Com.motive. plist.) Do you or did you have Fitbit installed? What do you use Unzip for? Mac can open zip files.

    Thanks again ginger!

    1. I do not have a subscription PCloud, not even sure what that is and I do currently use iCloud.

    2. I did have adobe photoshop at one time in the past but its not installed now and I don't use it.

    3. Never had Fitbit installed.

    4. I use native mac to unzip files, but i think i had installed some other version of zip program like winzip if i remember correctly.

Apparently I have the remnants of several old programs that were not uninstalled correctly???

    Thanks!

The best way to totally uninstall programs is to use the programs uninstaller, if there is one. Otherwise, sometimes at the program mfg. website you can find how to uninstall it. If not there ,you need to ask, as on this site, to see if someone knows what files to delete. As near as I can tell PCloud does the same thing as ICloud.Since you are using ICloud, you probably don't need both.

Also rid the MBP of clamxav.

    Run an Apple Hardware Test:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257

Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.

What is the source of your current RAM?

    Ciao.

    Ginger,

Thanks for the uninstall information. This is my first Mac and had it since 2011 and didn't learn the uninstall stuff until about 2012 so a year of probably uninstalling correctly, but i have been doing it right for the last several years by doing what you suggested.

The OP has installed ClamXav but is not running the background Sentry process, so it can't be causing any of the problems mentioned.

    and net.infinite-labs.SIMBLEnablerForSandboxedApps.plist User Launch Agent?

Does Afloat mean anything to you?  https://github.com/millenomi

Anything that uses SIMBL has always been problematic for many users.  It has always been hack software and the original developer abandoned it some time ago. There is now an Easy-SIMBL that is somewhat more stable, but still causes problems.

I do not use any kind of VPN nor do i see the need to use one in the future. Are they safe to remove? If so do I just throw the plist file in the trash or is there something else I need to do to correctly uninstall these? I searched the internet and didn't find much about uninstalling.

Doesn't mean a thing to me... safe to remove that as above?

    Thanks again!
