Powerpoint presentation via USB onto TV?

Hello, Newbie here, Please can anyone help?

I have a powerpoint presentation which we want to play on a large screen TV in the foyer of our local town hall.

What I would like to do is maybe have a number of presentations, (what's on, coming events, finances etc) each on a separate USB.

The council does not want any more wires or wifi and Really want to to use USB!

I on my Macbook Pro have got a nice presentation to try. I have saved this trial presentation in three formats, "Keynote" "pptx" and "MOV" I have put all three onto my USB. But the SONY TV recognises the USB but says nothing is on it!

I then put some photos "IMG" which on the same USB and the TV recognizes them okay! I am baffled! My ideal would be having a powerpoint presentation playing via a USB on a loop so that as visitors came into the townhall they could see what is going on and where.

Any help or advice would really be appreciated!!!

See if the sony TV model supports some other mode of file like AVI or MP4 and not MOV which is a mac developed format, so while it can be used on Windows it's not widely accepted as in the mac community and the TV might have no codec to interpret what it is. Also PPTX (is that it?) is a power point format, the TV won't see that at all.

It also may be in your best interest to format the USB drive from the TV (if it supported it) or another PC. Apparently you can read it but there are some limitations of Windows formats from Mac devices and you can rule those out by formatting from the source device or a Windows PC.

Thanks for that. Sorry about the font! Anyway, I am suggesting going down the HDMI route. We have been gifted a 42" TVso I am going for HDMI from that to a cheap basic laptop that has HDMI and a USB meaning they can put their presentations on the USB then put in Laptop and hence onto screen. It will also be a lot cheaper!

if you do mac to HDMI there have been reported issues with Thunderbolt to HDMI that are not apparent in dedicated Mini DVI to HDMI adapters.

the PPTX file you made on the mac should be compatible with any windows computer that has MSOffice 2009 and later if you want to keep it Power Point format - at least I think so. 2009 was about when this format showed up in my personal IT world.
