I can't delete photos that were sent to iphone after update to 9.2

When I begin the update to 9.2, the back up started downloading photos from my imac to my phone. I stopped the backup, but the ones that got through were not in the camera roll where I can delete them. They are in new albums and when I select them the trash can is grey. Is there another way to delete them?
