password field automatically filling with little dots, and other problems ever since installing El Capitan

It seems I have had nothing but problems since installing El Capitan. One of the problems is when my iMac {desktop} goes into sleep mode. When I try to log in and enter my password instead of it typing my password the field just fills up with little dots that I'm not typing. I try to delete and it does it again. The only way I can make it stop is to unplug the machine and start it up again. It is happening more and more frequently and seems to be random when it does it.

I'm hesitant about putting the new OS on my laptop since I've already had so many problems with it. Does anyone know why this particular issues is happening, have had it happen to them and been able to fix with any success?

Change AutoFill settings

Choose Safari > Preferences, then click AutoFill.

  • To turn AutoFill off or on, select the information you want to include in AutoFill, deselect the rest.
  • To change or delete AutoFill information, click Edit next to the information you want to change or delete.

I have had this problem for some time also. Initially in Mavericks, El Capitan and now Sierra.

I would resolve it by turning off the keyboard and then back on again after I woke the mac from sleep.

After reading some of these posts, there seemed to be a common thread, that many people with the issue also using track pads (mouse, keyboard and trackpad), as am I.

Subsequently, I tries turning off my trackpad completely, and this seems to have fixed my issue.

There seems to be some type of bluetooth conflict between the keyboard and the trackpad.

I will try unpairing the trackpad and paring it again, and see if this fixes the issue, or alternatively not use my trackpad.

There is in old user account in the machine .

Close all applications & shut down the computer , and plug the charger .

Press command + R + power key simultaneously , don't release the keys until apple logo appears , the bar will load slowly , let it be completed after a while you will enter in recovery mode .if you have enabled firmware password , turn it off .

Take your cursor on top menu bar & click on utilities > open terminal from here & type resetpassword the word is single & no space , all alphabets are small .Click on enter & close the terminal window .

On the screen you will see user name of the account , just select it ( press forcefully on it to get selected ) > click on next on the bottom side .

A rectangular bar appears > enter your new password carefully and click on SAVE “. And again go to top menu bar you will see apple logo > click on restart .

After that go to users & groups , select the unwanted previous account & click on minus sign , a window appears check the last option delete home folder .

I am having exactly the same problem. Pretty sure it's not a keyboard issue - my keyboard has just had new batteries fitted!

The problem seems to occur most frequently when Mac emerges from a standby mode. When I attempt to enter my password a mysterious hand takes over and fills the password box with dots/asterisks! I cannot get around this other than to power off the Mac. Any attempt to enter as a Guest gets me so far but as soon as I try to enter any search request or URL in a browser window there is either no response or each letter of the typed request takes an age to appear.

I have also found that the only solution in these situations is to shut down the Mac but that also proves impossible using the normal procedures, and I have to revert to the unsatisfactory method of disconnecting the power supply, something which I know is not recommended.

Once reconnected, however, I am able to boot up and input the password without any problem, and the Mac works normally once again, perhaps for several days until the problem appears once more.

Has anyone had any progress on this ? My Mac mini has been doing exactly the same thing since I upgraded to El Capitan and never experienced it prior to the upgrade. Like others I thought it may be a battery issue in the wireless keyboard but replacing batteries with brand new ones makes no difference.

As others have said the issue occurs when the Mac goes to sleep and when you try and type in your password it fills up with spurious characters, almost as if a key is stuck down (which it isn't).

Am toying with buying a wired keyboard to see if that helps in case it is a Bluetooth issue so if anyone has experienced this problem with a wired keyboard rather than a wireless one please let me know so I don't waste more money !

Next step is to try reinstalling the OS to see if that helps

Thanks

I've got this too. The problem doesn't appear only related to El Capitan, I have a machine running Mavericks which for the first time this morning displayed this issue. Nothing to do with the keyboard (we've tried 3 now) and obvious from the fact you're able to complete the username just fine but not the password.

From what I've seen it's almost definitely the iMac going into (and coming out of) standby that's the trigger, mostly because restarting mine from the login screen means the problem goes away.

I am tempted to wipe the device but I'd like to figure out exactly what that trigger is instead.
