Forgotten password on iPod touch

I need to unlock my iPod touch 4th Gen A1367 (iOS 4, 32GB) but i have forgotten the password and I've done some research and seen that i can do this by connecting to iTunes. I have tried connecting to iTunes it says that iTunes could not allocate a resource and then the iPod does not connect. If it does connect I sync it and then click restore iPod like I've seen on other forums but when I try do that it says something like I must check my network connection. I have also tried putting the iPod in recovery mode but I can't force restart it; only switch it off and back on again. The iPod also isn't connected to wifi because i can't unlock it to put my wifi password in.

Not knowing the wording of the messages you encountered maybe this will help:

Try:

- Powering off and then back on your router.

- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server

- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

Public DNS — Google Developers

OpenDNS IP Addresses

- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem

- Try on another computer/network

- Wait if it is an Apple problem
