This is answer related to this thread to Re: Windows 10 Boot Camp install won't let me install on BOOTCAMP partition on Mac Pro with SSD drive question which blended into another:
My spec is late 2015 iMac2TB@3.3Ghz&AMDm395 on elCapitan&Windows10
Summary of my work:
- I had working windows with official AMD driver for iMac at first.
- I messed with drivers and tried to install various AMD drivers on my mac (none worked after all).
- I didn't use any external tools.
- I tried catalyst 15.6b (m395 not supported), 15.11b (bricked windows, didn't run into GUI).
- I always removed drivers via AMD uninstall utility directly with each driver pack. I don't remember name however there is option like "Uninstall AMD drivers and all AMD software from this computer".
- Installing official AMD drivers for my Mac didn't work.
- Windows gladly thinks Universal PnP Display Adapter Driver is the very best for you, I almost broke my keyboard in half.
- But when you uninstall every AMD driver and software from your Windows and reboot into system with internet, Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update reveals graphic card update which automatically solves the problem.
- When you'll brick your windows 10 (black screen) could be fixed without reinstall either:
1) boot into windows and wait until loading icon disappears
2) wait 3 seconds to be sure (if you hard reset your computer while windows loads, you mess your registry)
3) hard reset computer, select windows, failsafe screen appears
4) boot into safe mode; Takes a little longer before GUI appears.
5) uninstall any display drivers from Device Manager
6) restart into Windows without safe mode
- When you'd like to install any unsupported AMD driver:
http://www.remkoweijnen.nl/blog/2015/09/21/update-amd-display-driver-under-bootc amp/
neither inf2cat tool nor messing with cat file nor paying for certificate isn't necessary. When you modify inf file and are admin, windows just throws "unsigned driver red window" where you can continue installation.
- Why I was messing with my Mac? m395 sometimes underclocks itself to less than 40% in some occasions (100% repro, instruction issue). For instance in game Elite Dangerous everytime in Supercruise mode framerate drops to 10FPS. Didn't find working solution yet. Doesn't belong to this thread however when some knows where could I find an answer, I'll be glad to hear.
