Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you purchased a new iPhone 6 Plus and it is not recognized by your Mac. Currently, these are the minimum system requirements for your iPhone to be recognized by your Mac.
System Requirements
Apple ID (required for some features)
Internet access8
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
- Mac: OS X v10.8.5 or later
- PC: Windows 7 or later
- iTunes 12.3 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)

I would need more information about what type of Mac you are using and the specs to provide a possible solution to this issue. However, since you have access to the Mac App Store you may be able to update your Mac to meet the system requirements. Take a look at the information below to better assist you with checking to see if you Mac will allow the update and how to update your OS. You can access your serial number and specs by going into your system information. Once you get this information, check to see if you meet the system requirements to update to the most current OS X version.
