How can I change/edit the 'reachable at' phone number listed on my apple id account information?

I can't remove that number. I don't own the number and I don't know why it's in there. please help

I read something in another post that helped but didn't have the specific details, this worked for me:

- on one phone go into Settings and then to Messages

- go down to the fifth option which is Send & Receive

- update the information in there with the correct phone number and/or email addresses that SHOULD be linked to the Apple ID that the phone is using

- repeat for the other phone connected to the other Apple ID

When I tried this it showed a verifying message and seemed sync with the cloud or something then sent a sent a verification message to the respective phone. When I went back into the Manage your Apple ID after doing for both phones everything was fixed.

PS. I am no Apple expert, i got my first iMac in the last couple of weeks, but this worked for me so hopefully it does for you too. Good luck. (also its disappointing that there some many people with this problem and Apple has not included a fix in any of their official FAQs).
