Trying to create a travel expenses spreadsheet

Hi there,

I've just started a 6 month holiday, and I'd like to keep track of our travel expenses. I've started a table but I'm having trouble manipulating the data to display in the way I would like.

Date

Expenses description

Category

Unit cost

Quantity

Total

Thurs 10th December

Fontana Restaurant

Food and drink

66

1

66

Fri 11th December

Bus

Transport

3.25

6

19.5

Fri 11th December

Groceries

Food and drink

95.29

1

95.29

This is the excerpt of my table I would like to be able to create a bar graph that will compile everything in the same category and display it as a percentage of the total spending.

For example I have currently spent 161.29 on food and drink and 19.5 on transport which means 89.21% of my total spending is currently on food and drink and the remaining 10.79% was spent on transport.

Obviously this is easy to do manually while there's only three entries, but I'm hoping there's a way for numbers to find the spend for every food and drink item (which obviously I will be adding each day) and collating them into the chart/graph.

I'm using a macbook pro running OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 and Numbers 3.6.1 (2566)

Thanks for any help in advance!

Check out the 'Personal Budget' template at File > New:

The transactions are entered on the second sheet(tab).

You can customize the categories. If you do that make sure the category spelling in the transactions table matches the spelling in the summary table on the first sheet.

The template includes charts that you can customize to your needs.
