I see a black screen, but can hear alerts, sounds, and vibrations

I had an issue opening a GarageBand and so I pressed the home button but nothing happened. So I pressed the sleep/wake button and the screen went black.

The screen has not come on again. But I can hear my phone ring and the vibrate/silence button responds. I even tried to charge and I hear the charging sound but no light on the screen.

This happened less than 4 hours from time of purchase. The phone did not fall down.

Please help.

Have you tried everything in the support document If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or won't turn on - Apple Support
