Q: iPod Classic not recognised by Mac El Capital iTunes 12.3.2.35
Hi.
iPod Classic not recognised by Mac El Capital iTunes 12.3.2.35.
I bought an iPod Classic 160GB version just when Apple announced that it was discontinuing the line. I wanted one very badly that would last for several years, as the previous one I had purchased 10 years back was degrading and giving trouble after many faithful years.
However, the new iPod was not required immediately as the old one was working. I had used the old one intermittently, like once in a year. In the new one I copied music, listened for a few days and stored it away for a few months.
When I recently took it out, after about six months, i could not get iTunes to recognise it, except to say that the iPod needs to be restored. That too only half the time. The rest of the time, it would flatly not recognise it. I pressed Menu+Select simultaneously, rebooted several times, and only got on the iPod display the following 1) a big red circle with a cross inside and 2) below was written www.apple.com/support/ipod.
I took it to the apple store but they had lost the bill, and so had i, and we concluded that they would not help me as a bill was needed as proof of purchase.
All the above was on a Mac. I then installed iTunes on a PC and tried to get the iPod recognised, but to no avail. I can hear a crick-crick sound as the hard disk inside the iPod is turned. But little else. It has been around 12 months since I purchased.
Is it now a deadweight?
I will be grateful for any opportunity to restore this as since I have lost the use of the other older iPod Classic also.
Thank you in advance.
Gerry
