If I understand correctly, you were charged for subscription and did not get a trial period. I would recommend you read this article, it may be able to help troubleshoot the issue.
If you navigate to this screen on the iPhone, does it show a Free Trial end date?
Manage your Apple Music membership on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC - Apple Support
- In the Music app, tap your profile icon in the upper-left corner.
- Tap View Apple ID. You might be asked to sign in.
- Under Subscriptions, tap Manage. If you have more than one subscription, tap Your Membership (Apple Music Membership) to see your membership options.
- Under Renewal Options, choose the type of membership that you want. Confirm your selection, then tap Done.
