Q: Bluetooth with Apple tv4

I Have purchase a new Apple tv4 and cannot get my iPhone 6 or my iPad Air. I had to set up the apple tv4 manually. I got the devices so close they were almost touching. I am using ios9.2 on my phone and iPad. Am I missing something?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

I have to say it worked just fine for me, but assume that you now have it all set up (albeit manually) and have no further need for assistance or is there something else not working.

Thanks for your response and welcome. I am happy I have the tv4 working. I have a concern that I don't gave the full potential functionality of the Apple tv4 without a Bluetooth connection.  If for example I wish to connect a wireless keyboard or games controller in the future would I be able to do it? Also we had friends over last night and I wondered if we could have viewed photos from there phone via Bluetooth on our Tv via Apple tv4.   thanks for your help.

Currently there is no Bluetooth support for the ATV4 - beyond that initial setup process or headphones/speakers. There is the remote app but that connects over wifi rather than Bluetooth. Photos are streamed to the device via home share or from the cloud over wifi/ethernet. There are no keyboards available to pair. Game controllers are MFI rather than Bluetooth...

Thanks Protodd, from what you are saying I'm not missing much at the moment. If my apple TV4 cannot see an iPhone 6 or an ipad Air then from your comments it means I may not be able to connect to speakers or headphone. I just have the suspicion that the bluetooth element of my TV4 may be faulty?

NO.  You would only be able to pair speakers/headphones with the ATV4. You cannot pair iPhone/iPad/keyboard on ANY ATV4.

"While there are apps that let you use your iOS device as a controller with your Apple TV, you can't pair your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple Watch to your Apple TV."

Use Bluetooth accessories with your Apple TV (4th generation) - Apple Support

You can test by pairing with bluetooth headphones. Or if you truly believe it's faulty, take it to an Apple Store for testing...
