Q: Questions about Resolve roundtriping and Medias.

Hai guys,

we just shot a Telemovie with A7S in AVCHD. For the first few days we had Atomos Ninja Star to directly output a ProRes 422,

but due to the Metadata Problem( each and every single clip will having the same Date, Time and after a few weeks of editing we realize even the audio that comes with the video is not even sync with the visuals at all!! So is a big no no for any production) and the card from Ninja Star has a problem, we decided to just transcode the media to ProRes 422 in FCPX after we decide not to use Ninja Star anymore.

For my understanding, Optimizing media will just help smoothen the process of offline editing, and according to Tom Wolskys's website (http://www.fcpxbook.com/tips/optimize-proxy-and-render.html), for any colour correcting or maybe any heavy work like tracking/effects, optimised media will be the best choice.  Also at the end of the day, the export movie is just gonna refer to the source original media, which is AVCHD/H264.

So my question is, if I am deciding to roundtriping to Resolve with FCPXML, which media is Resolve going to use? The original media(which is the AVCHD, or just H264 since that's what I found in the original media folder, correct me if I am wrong) or the transcoded media, which is the ProRes 422. (Technically I am referring the H264 footage to those are not the output of Ninja Star.

And the second question is, the quality of the footage that converts from AVCHD to Prores 422, will it be the same as direct ProRes 422 output? ( as in the bit rate, the dynamic range, and etc that relates to colour. i hope someone can provide me a link to understand all these). And why Is FCPX will still referring to the original source since ProRes 422 is better than H264(unless we are directly editing on R3D)

My last question will be, if for colour correcting, FCPX is referring to the Optimized media ( I supposed it is) then for the export movie, will it still refers back to the original source or the Optimized media.

* I hope that my questions are clear enough and it does make sense to the community.

Looking forward to the answer! Thanks In advance!!
